The Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" four-engine heavy bomber was widely used by the United States Army Air Foce during World War II. It was produced in large numbers and used in particular by the 8th Air Force for strategic daytime bombing missions on the European front, with the support of the long-range fighter escort. The "F" version represents a decisive evolution from previous models. The Boeing B-17F was characterized by increased range, the ability to carry a significant offensive load and improved defensive armament consisting of ten .50 caliber machine guns. Particularly appreciated by crews was the ability of the B-17 "Flying Fortress" to return to base even with significant structural damage caused by enemy fire. For collectors over the age of 14
